Wimbledon: Wives and Girlfriends add glamour
Andy Roddick doesn't seem to have done badly with his tennis since becoming engaged to a swimsuit model, Brooklyn Decker. Days after Roddick announced his engagement, the American achieved a rare victory over Roger Federer at a tournament in Miami this spring. And Decker, famous for her work in Sports Illustrated magazine, has also been having an effect on Roddick's appearance. When he lost a bet over American college sport with his fiancee, the forfeit was having to turn up for a Davis Cup tie with a Mohawk haircut. "I think I've lost half my fan base," Roddick has said of his engagement. Britain's Andy Murray was in a romantic mood this year when he turned up at one tournament wearing a baseball cap with his and his girlfriend's initials on the front. Kim Sears is the daughter of Nigel Sears, who once coached Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova and now works for the Lawn Tennis Association, so she understands the sport much better than many of the players' wives and girlfriends. "I've been with the same girl for two-and-a-half years, but I've no plans to get engaged for another three to four years," Murray, 21, said. Lleyton Hewitt's wife is actress Bec Cartwright, a former regular in the Australian soap Home and Away. Russian Marat Safin can usually be relied on to have a beautiful woman on his arm - a former companion is Dasha Zhukova, now Roman Abramovich's girlfriend. Mardy Fish, the American who beat Federer in Indian Wells this year, is engaged to Stacey Gardner, described rather intriguingly as "a Californian attorney and a briefcase model on NBC's Deal or No Deal".The first lady of the Centre Court, though, is Federer's long-term girlfriend, herself a former tennis player, Mirka Vavrinec. Federer met Vavrinec at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and she has since become a key member of his support team, helping to organise his practice sessions and media commitments. A few in the men's locker room are in relationships with current female players, following in the proud traditions of the likes of John Lloyd and Chris Evert, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, Anna Kournikova and Mark Philippoussis. Radek Stepanek, the world No 15, was once engaged to Swiss Martina Hingis, but is now swinging hands with teenager Nicole Vaidisova. Igor Andreev has the far from unpleasant role of being fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko's boyfriend and there have been persistent rumours about Jamie Murray and Serbian Jelena Jankovic.
Anna Kournikova-- World Hottest Triathlete
Not satisfied that she has sullied the sports world or fueled the imaginations of males aged 13-85 enough, Anna Kournikova today is a triathlete. Sort of.Well, maybe she’s not quite entirely a triathlete. This if for charity, so I’ll go easy, but it sounds like she only did the running part (four miles). At least that’s what I glean from the plans laid out on KOURNIKOVA.COM, your one-stop news source:“I am running in a triathlon on South Beach on Sunday the 13th. K-Swiss is one of the sponsors of the triathlon, and I am running 4 miles of the race, and all proceeds will benefit St. Judes Children’s Hospital. After the race I’m going to be at the K-Swiss tent on the Beach signing autographs and doing some meet and greets, and then in the evening I’ll be at a K-Swiss sponsored cocktail party on a yacht in Miami Beach. I can’t wait to get to the beach and run outside, although I am not too excited about having to get up at 5am!!!”So let’s get this straight: Running — check. Swimming — um. Biking — um. Cocktail party on a yacht — for sure!

Marat's words in his interview on 27 March at Miami Masters
I'm just playing, I'm trying, and it doesn't come out my way. But doesn't mean that I have to stop because I'm not winning matches. I enjoy what I'm doing. I have plenty of cash to do what I want to do, so what I want to do is play tennis. So it's not the subject of if I'm not winning any matches I have to retire straightaway. I can still travel and enjoy it, and if the good days will come, they will come. If not, I will stop anyway. I don't have many years left.
